A Day with Dad: Father’s Day in the Grand Haven Area

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 20, and now is the time to start planning a wonderful day with your Dad. The Grand Haven area offers something for every father to enjoy on their special day, from restaurants and shops to parks and beaches. If you don’t know what to do for Dad this year, here are some ideas.

Explore a Park

If you’re looking for an outdoor adventure, consider exploring a park that you haven’t visited before. Our area offers miles of trails that can be used for walking, running, hiking, or biking. You and your Dad could hike the dunes at North Beach Park, or go for a bike ride on the Grand River Explorers Trail. If you don’t want to stray too far off the beaten path, there are many other activities to do. Play a game of basketball at Mulligan’s Hollow or have a cookout at East Grand River Park.

Tour the Museum

Is your Dad a history buff? Consider taking him to one of our museums! The Tri-Cities Historical Museum and the Coopersville Historical Museum both offer local artifacts that tell the rich and interesting story of how the Grand Haven area came to be what it is today. You get to spend time with your family and also learn something new.

Go Golfing

Golfing is a classic Father’s Day activity. The Spring Lake Country Club, Pigeon Creek Golf Course, and American Dunes are just a few of the 25 public and private courses in the area. With so many courses to choose from, you’re bound to have a great game (or two). If you’re looking for something more laid-back and kid-friendly, there’s a mini-golf course at Chinook Pier Park in downtown Grand Haven.

Catch a Fish

Nelson Charters - Grand Haven, MIWho doesn’t love reeling in the catch of the day? Fishermen have been finding success in Lake Michigan and Spring Lake for centuries now. If you have your own boat, you can take it out on the water from one of our many public boat launches. If you’d rather have someone else take care of the heavy lifting, consider renting a charter boat and hang with the fishing experts! A captain will take you out to an ideal fishing spot and help ensure you get the perfect catch.

Have a Drink

After being out and about all day, nothing will taste better than a crisp, cold beer or hard cider. The Grand Haven area offers many local breweries that take the time and effort to craft drinks that will satisfy anyone’s taste buds. Toast to Father’s Day at Odd Side Ales, Old Boy’s BrewhouseBurzurk Brewing or Grand Armory Brewery. Cheers!

Grab Some Grub

Chances are you’ll need a nice meal to finish out your perfect day with Dad. Whether you want to do some bar hopping or get everything all in one place, there’s a variety of cuisine available in the area. Dine on some stacked sandwiches at The Toasted Pickle, fresh seafood at Snug Harbor, creamy pasta at Porto Bello, and so much more. Many places also offer outdoor dining so you can dine with a view.

With so much to do and see, Father’s Day in the Grand Haven area is sure to be a memorable one. For more ideas, visit the “Things to Do” section of our website.

Wishing all the Dads a very Happy Father’s Day!
