Coast Guard Events Breakdown 2023

The Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival is a week-long celebration to honor and respect members of the United States Coast Guard. Starting July 28 and ending August 6, the week will be packed full of activities such as live music, craft shows, parades, a carnival, fireworks, and more! Below is a daily schedule of events so you can stay in the loop about what events are happening when.

Friday, July 28

Event: Lighthouse Quilt Guild Quilt Show
Time: 10am- 5pm
Location: St. Patrick’s Church, 901 Columbus Ave.
Admission: $7.00
About: Annual Quilt Show “Of Sky and Sea”, members
showcase over 100 quilts, offer demonstrations,
and share stories about their antique quilts.

Event: Simply Queen- A Tribute Band
Time: 7:30pm
Location: Lake Michigan Credit Union Waterfront Stage
Admission: $15.00
About: A live tribute performs all the iconic songs that have made Queen one of the most legendary rock bands of all time and faithfully recreates the grand scope of Queen’s live shows, both musically and visually, capturing the amazing live Queen experience that has filled stadiums around the world.

Saturday, July 29

Event: Kids Parade
Time: 10:30am
Location:  Parade route: start at 5th St. & Franklin, West on Franklin to 1st St., North on 1st to Washington, East on Washington to 5th St.
Admission: FREE
About: “Global Guardians….. Hometown Heroes” is the theme of this parade to honor the Men and Women of the United States Coast Guard.  Get geared up and come on down for this parade for all ages.

Event: Cardboard Boat Race Competition
Time: 1:30pm
Location: Lake Michigan Credit Union Waterfront Stage
Admission: FREE
About: Two classes of racers will be featured in the 150-yard race at the Waterfront Stadium and limited to 20 boats. The Buoy Class is for youth, ages 10-15. The Cutter Class is open to anyone age 16 and older. Two-person and 3 to 8- person vessels are allowed.
Prize categories include fastest time, Fleet Award, Iceberg Award and People’s Choice. The Fleet Award goes to the best themed boat, while the Iceberg Award is for the best sinking.

Event: Woodstock Revival
Time: 7:30pm
Location: Lake Michigan Credit Union Waterfront Stage
Admission: $15.00
About: One spectacular band, many great tributes include Latin-Psychedelic rocker Santana, the most powerful female voice in blues, Janis Joplin and the Kozmic Blues Band, pioneers of the Psychedelic-soul sound, Sly and the Family Stone. as well as hits from Joe Cocker, Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane…for the full Woodstock experience. All in one show!. These acts are captured through a 10 person LIVE band which features a striking 3-woman horn section and forceful 3-piece percussion section.

Event: Flea on Seventh
Time: 10:00am- 4:00pm
Location: 7th street between Washington and Columbus
Admission: FREE
About: Get ready to shop! Dozens of vendors! Hosted by Vintage Green Antiques.

Event: Community Picnic
Time: 1-4pm
Location: City of Ferrysburg at Coast Guard Park, 1 mile west of 174th St. off N. Shore Dr
Admission: FREE
About: Enjoy food, games and music as we celebrate the annual picnic that was the start of the Coast Guard Festival 99 years ago.

Monday, July 31

Event: Parade of Ships
Time: 1pm (Approx.) Ship Arrivals
Location: On the Waterfront
Admission: FREE
About: Welcome the USCGC MACKINAW, USCGC BRISTOL BAY AND USCGC KATMAI BAY as they sail into the port of Grand Haven.

About: Tour the Coast Guard ships and see where the captain sits, where the crew resides, and the inside and outside of the ships.

Event: The Caverners- A Tribute to the Beatles
Time: 7:30pm
Location: Lake Michigan Credit Union Waterfront Stage
Admission: $15.00

About: The Caverners debuted in 1994 and have since been exciting audiences with their note for note perfect portrayal of The Beatles in concert. With authentic instruments, costumes and stellar vocals this all Canadian cast recreates an incredible performance night after night leaving audience screaming, stamping their feet and shouting for more.

Tuesday, August 1

Event: Coastie Golf Tournament

About: Golf Outing is for Retired and Current Coast Guard Personnel Only.
Featuring all the hallmarks of Michigan links style golf.  Opened in 2000 these wide Kentucky Blue Grass fairways with bent Grass PURE rolling greens are sure to bring your golf game a true delight!

Event: Kids Day
Time: 10am – 2pm
Location: Mulligans Hollow
Admission: FREE
About: Enjoy games, crafts, entertainment, and events for kids! Get your photo taken on the Red Carpet, Join the Prince and Princess contest or come play on all the bounce houses and learn building basics.

Event: Carnival
Time: 6pm- 11pm
Location: Downtown in Harbor Front and Covenant Life parking lot.
Admission: $25.00 daily armband

Event: Street Dance with Brena
Time: 8:30-10:30pm
Location: The middle of Washington Ave.
Admission: FREE
About: The Grand Rapids cover band, Brena, returns to the festival to bring the crowd to their feet in the middle of Washington Street. You’ll be dancing and singing along to hits from the 80s, 90s, and NOW.

Event: Country Legends Tributes- Garth Brooks-Shania Twain and Keith Urban
Time: 7:30pm
Location: Lake Michigan Credit Union Waterfront Stage

About: Country Legends Tribute Tour is now firmly established as North Americas #1 Country Music Tribute show featuring the music of the biggest names on the American scene including Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Toby Keith, The Zac Brown, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Keith Urban and more.

Wednesday, August 2

Event: Senior Day
Time: 8am-2pm
Location: Mulligan’s Hollow
Admission: FREE
About: There will be Zumba, a pickleball tournament, bingo and musical entertainment all located at the same place.

Event: Softball Tournament
Time: 8:30am
Location:  Mulligan’s Hollow Field
Admission: No cost for any team
About: For many years, the local and visiting ‘Coasties’ have been participating in a friendly yet competitive softball tournament.  The tournament is for Coast Guard personnel only,  but public spectators are welcomed and encouraged to cheer!

Event: Waterball Competition

Location: Washington Street between 3rd and 4th Street.

About: A moving tribute to those Coast Guard personnel who have died in the line of duty during the past year.

Event: Face2Face- A Tribute to Elton John and Billy Joel
Time: 7:30pm

About: Elton and Billy on stage together is a “must see” show. Face 2 Face is a high energy, interactive show with funny performance bits, sing-a-long parts and spontaneous humour.

About: This group was handpicked by the legendary Frankie Valli to join The Four Seasons and for well over a decade, have thrilled audiences all over the world with the music icon.  During their long tenure with the band, they began to develop their own identity and sound reminiscent of the vocal groups of yesterday, but with today’s modern style. *This event also includes the Musical Fountain and Firework Extravaganza Show*

About: Beginning at dusk, this annual fireworks show will leave you in awe. Happening at Lynne Sherwood Waterfront Stadium, the extravaganza can be viewed all along the boardwalk and downtown.
