The Kirby House

The Kirby House

The well-known and popular restaurant, Kirby House, lies on the corner of Washington and S. Harbor Dr. Since 1873, this building has served as a hotel, residence, and many different restaurants until it finally became the beloved Kirby House in 1989. This restaurant is a favorite for visitors and locals alike and features a variety of food, drinks, and entertainment for everyone.

DRINKS

During the summer hours, the upper deck is a perfect spot to enjoy dinner and drinks with a beautiful view of the Grand River leading out to Lake Michigan. As we looked down at the bustling Grand Haven street below, bartender Jessica mixed together some of Kirby’s tropical summer cocktails. She started with The Ultimate Bloody Mary; poured into a paprika-rimmed tiki glass and served with celery, bacon, pepperoncini, salami, cheese, a pickle spear, and pepper. The word ultimate is an understatement for how stacked this drink is.

Next, Jessica made us a Tropical Fusion. This cocktail is made with Malibu, vodka, simple syrup, pineapple juice, and a shot of grenadine to give the drink some color. A pineapple wedge and mini umbrella is placed on the rim before it’s served. This drink makes you think of hot summer days by the beach. The Watermelon Basil Margarita is just as fruity and colorful. They mix the drink using fresh watermelon and basil and pour it into a glass garnished with a salt and sugar rim and wedge of watermelon.

FOOD

Kirby also knows how to serve up some good food. Alongside the cocktails, the chef made us their popular Spiced Mahi Tacos and Summer Berry Salad. The tacos are served on fresh tortillas and are filled with lettuce, pickled red onions, pico de gallo, guacamole, queso fresca, lime-cilantro crema, and of course, a perfectly seasoned piece of Mahi-Mahi. If you’re looking for something a little lighter that has just as much flavor, their Summer Berry Salad is a pile of hearty artisan mixed greens topped with goat cheese, fresh berries, and a blueberry vinaigrette.

GAME ROOM

After we enjoyed our meal and drinks, we headed down to the second floor to check out their game room. Shuffleboard, dart boards, a huge game of Jenga, and more are all available for you to play with. While you are enjoying yourself, you can check out the names from the past and present that have been drawn onto the brick walls that hold the building together. If games aren’t really your style, Kirby also has live music every night from Thursday-Sunday. The Kirby House stage is on the main level of the building in the window front. Updates are posted on their Facebook page to inform everyone on any events or specials. Come visit Kirby!
