Grand Armory Brewing
Grand Armory Brewing Company’s taproom opened in 2015 and is located in the 113-year-old historic Grand Armory building in the heart of Grand Haven. At Grand Armory you can find 20 different beers on tap, as well as cider and wine. Brewed right here in Grand Haven and distributed all over Michigan, beer enthusiasts enjoy the unique flavors and creations that Grand Armory offers.
Co-founders Ben and Ryan took us on a tour of Grand Armory’s production facility and taproom to give us a behind-the-scenes look at how the brewing process works. It all starts in the mill room, where the grain is poured into the mill, crushed, and then transferred over to their mash tun. The grain sits in the mash tun for an hour so the sugars are released. Then, it is placed in the boil kettle where it sits for another hour as hops are added in. From there, the fermentation process begins as yeast is added and the sugars are converted into alcohol. The alcohol then goes through their canning machine and comes out in 6-packs that are then distributed to various vendors around Michigan.
Grand Armory offers a Mug Club Membership, which entitles members to $1 off pints of beer, $2 off growler refills of beer, 15% off merchandise, and personalized keepsake growler with lifetime membership or a Grand Armory Brewing growler with annual membership. The yearly fee for the Mug Club is $50 or $200 for a lifetime membership. Members must be 21+ to sign up. If you ask us, we think it is a great deal that offers great perks of coming back to Grand Armory again and again.
Within the taproom they also have Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque, which has a variety of yummy cuisine options available such as tacos, wings, and sliders. Dr. Rolf’s features unique recipes that have come from different experimentation and creative thinking. They offer savory flavors, zesty, craft barbeque and classic sides. We can’t think of a better combination that barbeque and beer!
