7 Perks of Working in the Grand Haven Area
Hello again! My name is Kristina, the and I have been the Marketing & Media Intern for the Grand Haven Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) this summer. As my internship comes to an end, I am reflecting on all of the aspects I have loved most about working in the Grand Haven area. From morning coffee to dinner downtown and everything in between, I have made it a goal to visit the most popular and most secret spots in the area! Here’s my list of why I have LOVED working in the Grand Haven area this summer.
#1 – Great Food
By great food, I mean the best of the best! From bakeries to cafés to restaurants – Grand Haven has it all. After work, I loved sitting outside at K2 to enjoy a delicious wood fired pizza or stopping by Righteous Cuisine to enjoy a burrito with chips & guacamole. Don’t have time to grab lunch or dinner? My favorite local sandwich shop, Electric Hero, happens to deliver!
#2 – Home of the Musical Fountain
Need something to do after dinner? The Musical Fountain is a must see in Grand Haven. This summer I had the privilege of going behind the scenes of the famous Grand Haven Musical Fountain. I didn’t know that much work goes into every show and that much of the work is done by volunteers!
#3 – Beaches, Boardwalks & Piers
Enjoy a walk filled with beautiful scenery, fantastic ice cream, and cute shops. I liked to grab an ice cream from Temptations or visit the Wet Mitten to check out the latest SUP boards while walking along the boardwalk. Photos taken from the boardwalk or Grand Haven State Park are the best, in my opinion!
#4 – Tourism Town
Some may see this one as a negative, but for local businesses, it’s a plus. Interning at the CVB has proven to me that it’s a positive. Summer is busy season and is when many of the locally owned businesses make the majority of their revenue. Working at the CVB has made me realize how important tourism is for this town. The fact that people come from all over the world to visit little Grand Haven is pretty cool! Also, we have just listed as one of the ‘6 Best Secret Beaches in the US‘!
#5 – Coffee Shops
I am an avid coffee drinker. Like, the type that has to have coffee every day. Before work, I like to get a frozen mocha from Jumpin’ Java or a chai tea latte from Coffee Grounds. If you are looking for a coffee and delicious pastry to go along with it, The Village Baker is one of my favorites!
#6 – Microbreweries
Drinks after work? Count me in! I am newly 21 and have been trying beer and wine around the area. My absolute favorite microbrewery is Odd Side Ales with its unique beer flavors. If you are a fan of wine, 12 Corners and Lemon Creek Winery are great places to have a taste.
#7 – Unique Shops
Shopping is my favorite way to pass time. I could go in all of the stores in downtown Grand Haven and want to buy something from each one. If you are ever looking for a gift, Grand Haven is the place to go – there are many shops with gifts for any age. Buffalo Bob’s and What a Gem Jewelry Boutique are a short distance from the CVB office and they both became a couple of my favorites shops.
That’s a wrap! There are many perks of working in the Grand Haven area. I’ve had such a fun experience being an intern for the CVB and will be visiting Grand Haven often post-internship. There is so much to do in the area. Even if you don’t work in Grand Haven but are visiting the area, there are plenty of fun activities to do! These were just a few of my favorites!
