Top 5 Photos with Randy Riksen Photography
This is the sixth installment in our blog series where we ask local photograohers to share with us their 5 favorite photos of the Grand Haven area. This week we are pleased to feature Randy Riksen from Randy Riksen Photography!
Randy grew up in West Michigan and moved to Grand Haven in the late 1990’s. He is a self taught photographer who loves to shoot local events, sports, senior portraits, and families. Randy is the one who takes photos for both Winterfest events and Soccer in the Sand. When he is not taking photographs, you can find him chasing one of his eight kids or out on the river fly fishing.
Here are Randy’s Top 5 Photos he has taken in the Grand Haven area and why!

This is one of my all time favorite shots. The colors of the sunset, the refection of the boat, and the Coast Guard team risking their lives, make this shot my favorite for sure.

Sometimes being in the right place, at the right time is what makes a great photo. I took this shot as I wrapped up a senior session on the North Pier. This sunset was stellar. I happened to be in the right place at the right time to align the wave, the couple, the birds, and the ship.

Long exposures are a lot of fun to shoot. The Coast Guard Festival can make for some great shots. This particular night there were a lot of people down on the corner which gave some nice blurred effects. But the obvious “cool factor” of this shot is found in the carnival rides.

Long exposures will depict movement in very unique ways. I love what long exposures do to the waves and the clouds in this shot.

Soccer in the Sand is the biggest event to hit the beach each summer. I love going the beach and capturing great action shots like this one. Shooting spots is a passion of mine so it would only be natural for me to include a sports shot as a favorite.
