Why You Should Visit the Grand Haven Area this Winter

While summer is the most popular time to visit the Grand Haven area, Winter offers a variety of activities for snow-lovers as well as fair-weathered friends.

SNOW-LOVERS
There is really no way to avoid the Michigan winter, so you might as well bundle up, get outside and embrace the snowy days.

Skiing & Snowboarding
Did you know that Grand Haven has hills for downhill skiing and snowboarding? Mulligan’s Hollow Ski Bowl is one of Grand Haven’s best kept secrets. Mulligan’s Hollow offers six different slopes with adjoining trails and a terrain park. This spot also offers a cozy lodge complete with a fireplace and concessions. You can now view the ski hill in real-time using the live web cam from Buffalo Bob’s.

Show-shoeing, Cross-Country Skiing & Hiking
Visit Pigeon Creek Park or Hemlock Crossing in West Olive for a fun day of snowy adventures. Hike through freshly fallen snow, cross-country ski along groomed trails, or snowshoe on a trail through the woods. Pigeon Creek offers cross-country skis and snowshoes for rent and Hemlock Crossing offers snowshoe rentals.

Winter Wonderland
Visit Grand Haven State Park for a unique winter experience. If the timing is right, you might be lucky enough to see the lighthouse and pier covered in ice. A great photo-op to show your friends! Chances are you’ll see a few brave surfers or kite-boarders riding the waves of Lake Michigan, too!

Ice Fishing
The Grand Haven area is a prime spot for fishing all year round. When the temperatures are frigid and there’s a thick layer of ice, it’s the perfect time to go out for an afternoon of ice fishing. Many bayous of Spring Lake offer incredible spots for catching bluegill, northern pike, and crappie. To stay up-to-date on ice fishing conditions, talk to the experts at Fish On Bait & Tackle.
