The Memorial Day Association will be hosting various activities this Memorial Day Weekend. Gather at Covenant Life Church on 101 Columbus Street, Grand Haven at 6:00pm Sunday, May 29, 2023, to pay respect to the service men and women who have given their lives serving the armed forces. All citizens of the Tri-Cities area are welcome to join in this special service.
The Memorial Day Parade will be on Monday, May 29 at 9:30am beginning at Washington Street from 6th Street leading to Harbor and ending the Lynne Sherwood Waterfront stadium. A short ceremony will follow, including a speech by local veteran, Captain Tom Walcott. There will also be musical selections by the Grand Haven High School Band and soloist Jeff McClain along with the sounding of TAPS as the flags are readied simultaneously on Dewey Hill and at the Stadium. Flower bearers will also strew flowers from the Coast Guard boats in the Grand River, creating a short but poignant ceremony for the community. Following the parade, there will be a Veterans’ Memorial at Y Drive, and will conclude the special tribute with TAPS and volleys at Lake Forest Cemetery. Trolley service will be provided by the city to and from the Veterans Memorial and the cemetery.
