Run for it!
Being on vacation doesn’t mean you need to take a break from your daily workout routines. In fact, discovering running routes while out of town is part of the fun and assists in getting to know the area a bit better. Staying healthy and fit while away from home makes sense.
The Grand Haven area was recognized a few years ago by Gallup-Healthways Wellbeing-Index, as second in the nation for happiest and healthiest places in America. The community and surrounding communities of Grand Haven offer plenty of trails, outdoor activities and great options for running routes. Area running groups offer weekly/daily runs – who better to show you the area than a local?
If weather is a factor, the YMCA, located in the City of Grand Haven, is a very active fitness club/organization and offers reciprocity if you are a member at home. The Spring Lake Fitness & Aquatic Center is open to the public, offers day pass options, and has an indoor track.
Another option is designing your travel plans around area runs: triathlons, duathlons, 5ks, 10k, half marathons – even marathons. Building your vacation around running events is a great way to start an annual tradition, meet the locals, and reach that next PR.
