May 28- 31 2020 CANCELLATION ANNOUNCEMENT:
The 2020 Grand Haven Offshore Challenge has been canceled. Please read the following from organizers regarding the cancellation of the tournament.
We regret to announce that we have been forced to cancel the 2020 Grand Haven Offshore Challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a number of unforeseen issues surrounding this year’s tournament and with that in mind, coupled with the feedback we have received from our participants and sponsors, it is in the best interest of the tournament and its participants to cancel this year. This is very unfortunate and a decision that our tournament committee took very seriously. Our committee has spent a lot of time preparing for this year’s event and we’re saddened that we cannot make it happen. That being said, next year will be the 25th anniversary of the GHOC and we plan on making it the largest tournament yet! Please help support the tournament committee in its decision for this year’s event and we look forward to seeing you back again in 2021 to help us celebrate a quarter century of amazing GHOCs!
The Tournament Trail began in 2003 when Captain Fred MacDonald approached 8 existing Big Lake Events with an idea of marketing and promoting them together as a circuit. Fred was a leading charter captain out of Manistee and for decades he ran successful trips on his boat “30 Pounder”. Life on the Big Lake can certainly take its toll on a man and as Fred grew older he (and his knees) grew weary of spending day after day rocking and rolling on the water. While the physical challenge of running trips was catching up with him, his passion for Big Lake Fishing remained strong. He began thinking of ways he could stay close to, and have a positive impact on, this fishery that he loved so much.
