Encounter the Arts is a free event returning for its second year on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. As a celebration of Arts and Humanities Month and local Grand Haven artists, this event features family-friendly workshops and performances. This year, performances will include a Community Mural Art Project, a Shakespeare performance, vocals and live music, dance performances, cardio drumming, stage combat, improv experiences, and more. This year, a special kids-only craft area, coordinated by Northwest Ottawa Recreation Authority (NORA), will also be set up on the lower level. Kids’ craft activities will include face painting, rock painting, balloon animals, and demonstrations by the Lakeshore Taekwondo Academy.
New exhibits will also be featured this year in Central Park Place’s Atrium Gallery. To culminate the event, Central Park Place is partnering with Loutit Library (https://link.edgepilot.com/s/abeadf9e/l9PMaydrMU_7PWkrx_0ZOQ?u=https://www.loutitlibrary.org/) to bring the Manhattan Short Film Festival (https://link.edgepilot.com/s/f993e9ef/LsQ2CjQ5YkucPNgibiMC6w?u=https://www.manhattanshort.com/) to Encounter the Arts as a special event finale. A cocktail reception will start at 5 pm, with short film screenings beginning at 6 pm in the Acacia Theatre. Screenings will last for 2.5 hours, including a brief intermission. Free popcorn will be available for all attendees as well.
