Gallery Uptown in Grand Haven is kicking off the summer season with “Musing in Paint & Stone,” featuring gallery artist members Marlan Cotner and Jackie Helder, along with noted local artist Maggie Bandstra and Brian Meuser.
Marlan Cotner’s trompe l’oeil or “fool the eye” paintings require a second glance, and her wry humor can be found in the titles or subjects of her work, as in “Go Fish,” with a realistically painted cat staring at goldfish crackers or a life-sized mouse eating teddy grahams titled “Mousezilla.”
Jackie Helder has been a jewelry maker for close to two decades and is inspired by the patterns and colors of the world around us and the beauty and energy of the beads themselves. Brian Meuser brings a fresh perspective with his landscape oils, and Maggie Bandstra presents a wonderful collection of her oil and ceramic work.
“Musing in Paint & Stone” will be showing through July 30th. An opening reception will be held Friday, July 7 from 5:30 – 8:00pm, with the artists on hand to speak about their work. The public is invited to attend this free event; wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Gallery Uptown is the oldest is the oldest artist owned gallery in Michigan and had been voted “Best Gallery in the Grand Haven area” ten years in a row. Thirty award-winning artists from the West Michigan area show their work in the gallery all year round.
