Flying Kites
As you walk the length of the beach and enjoy the warm summer breeze blowing across the lake, you will almost always notice a collection of colorful objects in the sky. One of the most popular activities to participate in along the shoreline of Grand Haven is kite flying. This activity is perfect for people of all ages to be involved in.
Whether you choose to spend an entire week or just an afternoon at the sandy shore, flying kites is a great activity that you do not want to miss out on!
Beach Volleyball
The Grand Haven City Beach has a total of 28 regulation beach volleyball nets, which is more than any other publicly accessible area in the nation! The nets are first set up in early June and are not taken down until the end of the season. Whether you prefer to play competitively with two players on each team or a laid back game with your friends and family, this is an activity that you do not want to miss out on. The Grand Haven beach has many areas to participate in sand volleyball, so grab some people and hit up the court!

Soak Up the Sun
Grab a towel, a pair of sunglasses, and your swimsuit and hit the beach! Lying out underneath the hot summer sun is the most sought-after activity in the area. The soft sandy shore, warm summer breeze and cool Lake Michigan water create the perfect beach experience. Not one who likes to stay still? Bring a football or frisbee to the beach and start up a fun game with your friends. Smooth on that sunscreen, snag a few friends and head on over to the West Michigan shoreline for an unforgettable afternoon.
Sand Sculpture
The beaches of the Grand Haven Area have so much more to offer than just getting a fabulous tan! Not only is the golden sand gorgeous to look at, but it is also perfect for bringing out your creative side. Sand sculpting is one of the most fun beach activities for individuals or groups to be involved in. Grab a bucket, some authentic Lake Michigan beach water, a shovel, and put your artistic skills to the test!
Longboarding/Skateboarding
The world of longboarding and skateboarding has drastically expanded in the Grand Haven Area within the past few years. The beach town atmosphere and curved downtown roads make this region perfect for both beginners as well as experienced boarders. Boarding is often compared to “surfing on concrete” with its similarities to the popular water sport. Grab a board and experience this fun, entertaining activity with friends and family! The Grand Haven area is fortunate enough to have their very own skate park, which is located by the YMCA on Harbor Drive.
