Best Kids Activities in the Grand Haven Area

Taking a trip with the family is always a great time, but sometimes it can be tricky to find things to entertain the kids. If you’re coming to the Grand Haven Area, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with lots of activities the kids (and you!) will love! 

Musical Fountain

The Musical Fountain is great for all ages, but kids REALLY enjoy it! What’s not to like when this nighttime show features dancing waters lit up with bright lights that dance to the beat of a song? From themed shows like Disney’s Frozen and Star Wars along with regular shows featuring songs from Taylor Swift, Florida Georgia Line, Jimmy Buffett, and more. There is a show nightly at dusk from Memorial Day to Labor Day as well as on Fridays and Saturdays in May & September. Best of all, the show is always free!

Splash Pad

On a hot summer day, the splash pad is a refreshing way for your children to cool off! The fountain is activated by motion sensors for kids to enjoy all day during the warm summer months.

Chinook Pier Mini Golf

Need a break from the beach? Look no further than mini golf just a short walk down the boardwalk! Grab a putter and a ball and enjoy a quick game with the kids! Located right down town, kids will enjoy the course that is Grand Haven themed complete with a replica of the lighthouse.

Imagination Station

The Imagination Station is a 10,000 sq. ft. of playground fun designed by area children and constructed by the community. Its large size, great features and location are sure to keep kids occupied for hours. Whether they are going down the slide over and over or playing hide and seek, this is a perfect place to take kids for some fun.

Nature Education Center

The Nature Education Center, located within Hemlock Crossing Park, has exhibits, a wildlife den with critters and activities, a wildlife viewing area where you can watch birds and animals at the feeders, and a gift shop. The center also hosts a variety of educational programs for schools, special groups and the public.

Harbor Trolley

Fun the whole family can enjoy! For a low cost, family’s can ride the trolley and get a short tour of Grand Haven. Operating from Memorial Day until Labor Day, the Trolley offers a relaxing ride around town and an alternative way to get to the beach.

Beaches

The Grand Haven area is known for its beaches, so make sure your children get to experience the greatness of Lake Michigan! There are several options for beaches in the Grand Haven Area, so finding the best fit for your family isn’t hard at all. For the whole downtown experience, locations like the State Park and City Beach are perfect for you, but if you’re looking for something less populated, try North Beach or Kirk Park.

U-Picks and Farmers Markets

Going to a local U-Pick can be a great way to spend the morning with the kids! From strawberries to blueberries, it’s an adventure that the kids (and whole family) will enjoy! Not only can you snack on some fresh produce while your in town, but you can take a whole batch home as an edible souvenir. The local farmers markets are always fun to walk through and offer more than just fresh produce. You can also grab a cup of coffee, some donuts, cheese, kettle corn, flowers and more!

Tri-Cities Historical Museum 

Both fun and educational, the Tri-Cities Historical Museum provides a way for kids to learn about the history of the Tri-Cities area (Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg) while also being fun and interactive with a variety of exhibits.

Coopersville & Marne Railway

If you’re looking for an adventure with your kids this is the perfect option for you! Ride aboard restored vintage passenger cars along the historic railways from the 1920s. Running all through spring to winter, the train offers casual rides and themed events that the whole family will love.

Geocaching

If you’re looking for even more adventure, take the kids on a real-world treasure hunting game in the outdoors! By using GPS enabled devices, people playing the treasure hunting game are given a specific set of GPS coordinates to find the container hidden at each location. All you have to do is download the free app and start hunting!

Mulligan’s Hollow 

If you visit the Grand Haven area in the winter months, you can have the chance to check out one of our hidden gems – Mulligan’s Hollow Ski Bowl! The local ski bowl offers affordable passes to skies and snowboarders. Taking on the slopes with your family is easy and fun with this local gem. Whether you are new to the sport and need lessons or you’re a seasoned boarder, this is the perfect place to spend your days in the winter!
