Best Grand Haven Area Beaches

The Grand Haven area has no shortage of beaches if you’re looking to go spend some time in the sun and by the water. If you’re looking for a new beach to check out, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Here you’ll find some of the best beaches in the area!

Grand Haven State Park
If you’re spending the day in downtown Grand Haven, you can’t miss stopping at the State Park to see Lake Michigan all year long. Just a short distance from eateries and unique shops, the State Park is also home to the Grand Haven lighthouses and pier.

Grand Haven City Beach
South of the State Park, the City Beach is still located right in town, but a little less crowded than the State Park. You can even bring your pup on-leash to enjoy the beach before 11 am or after 5 pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day. After Labor Day, on-leash dogs are welcome any time.

Kirk Park
The great thing about Kirk Park is that it’s not just for humans! Kirk Park has a traditional day beach area (humans only please) and then a separate section where dogs can enjoy Lake Michigan off-leash with their family. If you need a quick break from the beach, you can even hike the many trails the park has.

Olive Shores
This is another relaxing beach off the beaten path. Olives Shores spans down the shoreline of Lake Michigan where everyone is able to spread out and enjoy some much needed time by the beach. With the great location of this beach, it’s never too crowded and everyone who attends can enjoy their time either in the water, building sand castles or with a good book! But beware, you do need to climb a series of stairs over Mount Olive to access the beach.

North Beach Park
Just a short trip over the Grand Haven bridge, North Beach has a beautiful beach that is especially family friendly. Relax by the beach or hang out under the pavilion and enjoy a beach picnic. With a playground for kids and a great waterfront, North Beach Park is perfect for the whole family. You can even take in a stunning view of Lake Michigan via the dune stairs on the east side of the park. These stairs also give access to the North Ottawa Dunes trails.

Rosy Mound Natural Area
The hidden gem of beaches, Rosy Mound is not your average trip to the beach. After taking a hike through the stairs, trails, and boardwalks you’ll end up the Rosy Mound beach free of crowds. Make sure to take the extra time to stay for the beautiful sunset!

Lakeside Beach

***Currently, due to high water levels in the state of Michigan, this beach is not accessible.  Please visit other area beaches on our list.

If you’re looking for something a little smaller, check out Lakeside Beach. Located on Spring Lake, the beach is the perfect place to avoid large crowds. This also makes it a great spot for kids along with the shallow, warm spring fed waters and lifeguard on duty in the summer months.
